Are Gadgets Making You Ill?

It seems like life today centers a great deal on all of the technology you use all day long. From the time you wake up in the morning to the alarm clock on your smartphone to the GPS you use in your car to get places each day to the computers you use at work to the streaming devices you use to watch movies in the evening and everything in between it seems as if there is a gadget for every function you need to perform today. While it is helpful to have all of these items at your disposal, people have also begun to find that the regular use of some of these items is beginning to cause health problems. Are all of these gadgets you are using starting to make you ill each day?

What Happens Through Use

There is a pretty good chance you have experienced at least one of the following feelings during the course of your day – a stiff neck, a stiff back or back ache, sore wrists, sore thumbs and fingers, headaches, hearing problems, the inability to concentrate and several other physical and mental health issues throughout the day. Any number of these feelings can be caused by the use and overuse of the gadgets in your life. People today spend so much time hunched over their smartphones and tablets or staring at their laptop or desktop computer screens that health issues are starting to crop up as a result of use. These health problems are not necessarily just slight issues either – many people, as a result of their actions, may need to seek assistance through procedures like physical or occupational therapy as a means for recovery and some may even need surgery eventually.

What You Can Do

Obviously not all of these problems are going to occur to everyone, but you may notice some typical symptoms that crop up after extended use on your part, like headaches, eye strain, fatigue, problems with hearing and pain in your fingers, thumbs, wrists and back. The easiest way for you to remedy some of these issues is to not spend as much time using or in front of all of these devices. If you spend a great deal of time using your smartphone or computer, make sure you give yourself a break every thirty minutes or so and move away from the device to give yourself a chance to relax and stretch. If you are sitting at a desk a lot, try to maintain good posture and stand up away from the desk every now and then to avoid problems.

Unfortunately as the use of all of the technology, devices and gadgets becomes more and more a part of everyday existence the health issues that arise as a result will become more prevalent. That is why it is so important to make sure that you are mindful of your behavior with your technology and do what you can to try to create the healthiest and safest environment for yourself so you can avoid some of these health issues.
