Science has always posed itself as the big know-it-all of the world. It continues to declare Absolute Truth and demand that the world accept its declarations as Absolute Truth. There are, however, a few rather bizarre mysteries for which Science still has absolutely no clue about.
The Placebo Effect
The Placebo Effect, as most everyone knows has been used in scientific experiments, and elsewhere, for many decades. In the experiments, one control group is given an actual substance, a medication or some such thing, and the other group takes what amounts to a sugar pill. The astounding thing is that the people who take the placebo actually believe it works. It seems that if your brain believes it, it is real. This phenomenon works in all areas of a person’s life. You body can heal itself if the brain is convinced it can heal itself.
Why we need to yawn
Everyone does it but no one, especially science, actually knows why. It doesn’t matter where you come from, if you are human, you are going to yawn. There are many scientific theories out there and the most likely one to be researched is that, by yawning, we are taking in some extra oxygen. Apparently the yawn was the sign that our body has been oxygen deprived.
Magnets
For the most part, scientists do have a working knowledge of how magnets work. What science has no clue about is why natural magnets have a north and south pole. A magnet could be cut up into several little magnets and each of them would still have a north and a south pole. Science has managed to build magnets in a lab with only one pole but out in nature it has never happened. Also, science can’t explain why magnets even exist.
The Voynich Manuscript
It is quite likely one of the greatest bizarre mysteries of all time. It is a 246 page manuscript that science believes was written around 1400 AD. The book is filled with beautiful and detailed drawings of everything botanical but it is written in a language that is found nowhere on Earth. For many years, people have tried to translate it and all have failed. Many an educated guess has been made from it being some sort of medical book to a book that was written and left behind by an extraterrestrial race many centuries ago.
The Costa Rican stone balls
The unique and mysterious stone balls are located all over the Central American country of Costa Ricaand no one knows how they were made, how they got there, what their purpose is, or who made them. What they do know is that the primitive tribes that existed at the time could not possibly have made them. They range in size from a baseball to some that are over eight feet in diameter and taller than an average human. Many have guessed that they are of extraterrestrial origin but the reason for them has everyone scratching their heads.
