Stephen Hawking has made a proposal recently that, if proven out to be correct, could seriously affect the possibility of science figuring out a way to travel in time. The key to the proposition, Hawking believes, lies in the existence of black holes. The previously held belief that black holes allow nothing to escapes has been disproven and Hawking believes that evidence is left behind by anything that disappears into a black hole.
Hawking had originally theorized that when two entangled particles are swallowed up, one of them manages to escape as radiation. Radiation, he stated, was a strong enough force to escape any singularity, especially a black hole. What has been heavily debated is the conjecture that information from the trapped particle is not able to be imprinted on the escaped particle. Critics suggest it violates Einstein’s conjecture that energy is never destroyed but can only be transformed.
Hawking, however, continues to theorize that matter can escape a black hole. That there is a way out. In research he has done with two other physicists, they theorized that the answer may be found between the zero particles and the event horizon of the black hole. Hawking posits that everything that escapes the black hole is saved as pure information.
To take it a step further, Hawking continues to propose, and to declare in speeches, that his “exit theory” proclaims that there is a way out of black holes. That there is a back door that leads out to another universe and, quite possibly, other dimensions.
However, standard physics suggests that there can be no real return to this universe once a black hole is entered. While there may be a back door, as Hawking suggests, the door will slam shut behind whatever goes through unable to return to this present reality and universe.
If nothing else, Hawking creates controversy and stimulates debate wherever he goes and whenever he releases a theory. He once suggested that a black hole could be created here on Earth that could be a new source of unlimited energy.
