Having access to all of these wonderful pieces of technology can certainly make your life easier. People have come to love and rely upon their smartphones, tablets, laptops, e-readers and other devices, but there are some issues that people run into regularly with the devices they have and whenever they upgrade a device. Very often as devices change over time it requires that you buy new and different cables because the connections are so different from one device to the next. This not only leaves you with a drawer full of cables that you spent good money on but it means you need to have a lot of different cables for all of your devices. There is hope that in the near future there will be a migration to a one connector system that will make it possible for there to be just one type of cable used for everything.
The New USB-C Port
Many of the new devices coming out now are making use of the USB-C port only, making it more likely that this will be the type of port used on all devices. Apple already makes use of it in the latest version of their MacBook, Google uses it for its Chromebook, Intel makes use of it on their latest version of Thunderbolt and other devices seem likely to follow suit as the future unfolds. This type of cable allows for just a single cable that can deliver power, data and a display signal all at once, making the need for other cables and connections go away. This cable is also reversible so that any host device, like your laptop computer, can be used to either charge another device or receive a charge from another device. This means that this port can replace the need for other cables that may be used for things like video, power and data.
Why this is Important
When you have connections of this nature it does take society one step closer to being able to eliminate the need for a lot of the cables currently in use that you need for different functions. The ultimate goal may be to eliminate all of these cables at some point and be able to rely strictly on wireless technology to operate and charge all of your devices, but the technology is not quite there yet. This type of cable will help to cut back on the need for many different cables to do all of the things you need to do with your various devices, saving you money, time and space.
This is just the first step towards the potential use of just one type of cable for all of your technology. There are still other changes that need to take place and the port would need to be incorporated as a standard among more devices for it to be fully used the way it is hoped to be used. Until then, there is plenty of hope that technology is headed in the right direction with this type of innovation.
